Queen Annes Inn, one of the earliest homes built on Roanoke Island, is a true original Wanchese house. Built by a lighthouse keeper for his family of eight,
it is an architectural wonder. From the white beaded walls and ceilings found throughout this lovely home to its heart-pine floors, it is standard for the period and truly a work of art.
From Northern Points take Highway 158 South toward the Outer Banks. About fifty miles from Chesapeake and Elizabeth City, Hwy. 158 will cross the Wright Brothers Memorial Bridge. Continue South on Hwy. 158 to until you pass Tanger Outlet Mall in Nags Head where you will bear right onto Hwy. 64 West toward Roanoke Island. After crossing the bridge to Roanoke Island, proceed to the traffic light and turn left onto NC 345 toward the village of Wanchese and continue for approximately three miles. Make a slight right at Old Wharf Road and continue approximately one mile to Queen Annes Events at 1064 Old Wharf Road.
From Southern Pointstake Highway 12 North from Buxton, NC to Nags Head, NC. Turn left onto Hwy. 64 West toward Roanoke Island. After crossing the bridge to Roanoke Island, proceed to the traffic light and turn left onto NC 345 toward the village of Wanchese for approximately three miles. Make a slight right at Old Wharf Road and continue approximately one mile to Queen Annes Events at 1064 Old Wharf Road

Wanchese NC
Wanchese was the site of the first fishing village on Roanoke Island. Indigenous people inhabited the area 1500 years ago, and their various cultures used this site for fishing for 1100 years. Wanchese was long used as a seasonal settlement that the Roanoke came to from the mainland to fish and collect shellfish. At the time of English exploration, the Algonquian-speaking Roanoke tribe used the site for seasonal fishing. After English colonization, the site continued to be used for fishing by the Anglo-American peoples.
Directions
From Western Pointstake Highway 64 East from Raleigh, NC toward the Outer Banks. Continue on Hwy. 64 past Williamston and Columbia. Continue east until you reach Manns Harbor and cross the Croatan Sound on Virginia Dare Bridge (Highway 64 bypass). At the traffic light, turn right onto NC 345 toward the village of Wanchese and continue for approximately three miles. Make a slight right at Old Wharf Road and continue approximately one mile to Queen Annes Events at 1064 Old Wharf Road.From Northern Points take Highway 158 South toward the Outer Banks.
