Manteo NC is a quaint town on Roanoke Island where visitors can experience the rich history, resilience, pioneering spirit and culture of the Outer Banks from museums to The Lost Colony, the world’s first and longest running outdoor symphonic drama. Manteo is named for a Native American Indian named Manteo, of the Croatan. Manteo had been "civilized" by the English. Manteo and another native, Manteo, were liaisons between the settlers and the Indians. Manteo, Lord of Roanoke, was the first Native American to receive a title of nobility. The first English child born in America in 1587 to Ananias Dare and Elinor White Dare.
